First we’re going to backtrack to July only because this was a big deal to us. We’ve had a Thanksgiving Point membership for more than a year, and every time we go to the farm Eli gags, and if he gags too much then he throws up. Our first time to the farm with our membership he threw up…twice. I wasn’t too surprised only because when we feed the dogs he has to completely leave the vicinity, out of site, out of smell, out of mind or else he gags and throws up. So, in July he walked in and didn’t gag. Then he rode a horse and didn’t gag! He was so happy saying, “No gag! No gag!” He knew he had a problem. Now he loves the farm and petting the animals and riding the horses.
I also found another cute, but sad, picture from Eli’s time at Primary Children’s with my mom while we were in NYC.
Halle had swim lessons in August and Eli was devastated he could not join her. Halle passed level 1 with no problem.
I was proud he enjoys walnuts, pecans, sunflower seeds, and other nutty snacks.
My dogs are cute.
Eli ate lunch outside almost everyday during the summer.
Halle did a spring break camp at Tracy Aviary and they had a camp reunion. Not that Halle knew anyone from her camp, but it was free entry to the Aviary along with free dinner and bird encounters.
This looks like a very wise owl.
She was so excited. This bird was super cute.
They had a slip ‘n slide.
On August 17 Jared and I hiked up Mt. Timp. Never again.
My view most of the hike…not so bad I guess.
You might call this my “before” picture. I was in good spirits since we were 15 minutes into the 8+ hour hike.
There were beautiful streams with tiny waterfalls during the first hour or so. On our way down we used our water bottle with a filter to drink some of this water. It was SO good. There was no dirty taste at all.
You might call this my “during” picture. I have no after picture, but I assure you I was miserable.
This is at the first saddle.
I sat on a second saddle while Jared finished the hike up. I just couldn’t do it anymore. And I absolutely do not regret it.
He’s up there somewhere.
I meant to send him with the camera, but luckily he had his phone and some stranger was willing to take his picture.
My fingers swelled up like I was 9 months pregnant. Ew.
This moose was ON the trail. So we had to go on the poopy moose trail to get around him. He was huge and it was so cool to see him up close. We also saw two bucks, but they were running so fast we couldn’t snap a picture.
I suppose you could call these my after pictures. We were so dirty.
I really shouldn’t complain…but I will. It was a fun day out with Jared…that I will never choose to enjoy again. There’s a man named Ben Woolsey, who is 71 and has climbed Mt. Timp a record 600+ times (he goes up 4 times/week). He can make it to the top in 3 hours. I think it took us something like 4.5. He’s in charge of going to the hut at the top and picking up the summit register. I feel like such a wimp.
Anyway…back to complaining…that night my knees were in such incredible pain that I could not go up and down the stairs. I’d have to hold onto the banister and swing myself down a few stairs at a time. The motion of bending my knees hurt so bad. My hips also hurt But…to make it all better, my birthday present came in the mail! An iPad mini! Woo hoo!
On August 19 we had a back to school bbq in our backyard with Halle’s BFF Emma. They’re so silly together.
Eli threw his Mickey Mouse train at Emma. I felt so horrible, the poor girl.
August 20 was Halle’s first day of second grade.
So happy to be walking home from the bus with Emma. Halle has been in charter school the past two years, and was excited to be able to ride the bus with her friends, though she says she really misses learning Arabic.
This tree grew hardly any leaves this spring and summer, and we could just snap off the branches, so we decided its time had come to an end.
On August 28 we did a final trip to Pineview Reservoir. Dustin’s kids were off track, so Eli was able to play with his cousins.
August 29 was the first football game. Go Utes! Halle was embarrassed to wear her Utah gear to school, but we made her do it anyway. She said some kids would say Go BYU to her, but overall, I don’t think we traumatized her. Eli was so excited to wear his “Go Team” shirt. Since the game was Thursday night only Jared went, so no pictures from the kids at the game.
Eli has a new best friend, Cameron. They have lots of fun together.
And that was our August!
